3-month Communication volunteer - 2023

After graduating with a Master's degree in Communication, I decided to carry out a project that had been on my mind for a several years and which was close to my heart: helping the most disadvantaged by lending a hand directly in the field. That's why I flew to Cambodia for three months to help the people at Enfants de Klang Leu !

Surrounded by other volunteers and supported by EKL team members, without whom the adventure wouldn't have been the same, I had the opportunity to carry out many different missions.

In connection with my studies, my main responsibility was to manage all aspects of communication (social networks, T-shirt design, photo shoots, video creation, etc). I also had the opportunity to teach children new skills by giving them English and swimming lessons. At the same time, I took part in the daily life of the Centre (preparing meals, managing the vegetable garden, taking care of the children and setting up sports and creative activities). Believe me, I had no time to get bored!

Today, I would say that this experience has changed me profoundly. Interacting with them on a daily basis opened my eyes to the challenges they face every day, and helped me to put my everyday worries into perspective and learn to appreciate my surroundings more.

As volunteers, we all set out with the desire to help the children, but in the end, we realize that they, too, have taught us an enormous amount. Their empathy, sensitivity, generosity and resilience in difficult situations have been a source of inspiration and a real lesson in life.
