Volunteering with a family for 2.5 months - 2023

We signed up for 2 and a half months with Enfants de Klang Leu association between February and April 2023. We made the choice to go as a family with our two children aged 5 and 8, and it's probably the best experience of our lives as 4!!!! 

In a few words...the reasons for our involvement were to discover together another world (another culture, another language, other needs and priorities) in order to get away from our "comfortable Western" pace of life. We wanted to try and share our knowledge and time to help people in need.

The aims of the EKL association quickly won us over: to support children and their families from an educational and health point of view.

Fabienne and Florence were quick to guide us into this project, and we were integrated into the team as soon as we arrived. Their welcome was unforgettable.

We were able to take part in various activities depending on the needs and our (sometimes unexpected!) skills: education, health, sports, cooking and gardening... No day was the same and every day was a surprise 😊 The daily mutual help in the Centre with and between the children, staff and other volunteers will remain a life lesson for the 4 of us! 

Leaving with our children was a challenge, but their immediate and natural integration with the children at the Centre was the promise of an unforgettable experience for them too ("when are we going to see our friends again?").

We've learnt to take a step back and measure the inequality in terms of education and health of children with the same needs as ours...  

We will be forever be marked by everyone's kindness. And we have only one piece of advice: dare!
